Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Installation (from live CD) chrashed after all selections were done and installation seemed to start.
However, changes between the screens (e.g. from from giving user name to partition set or the like) took ages.
The window sayed something like "Erasing possiblly conflicting (old) system files" (don't remeber correctly) for quite some time,
then the please-report-a-bug window appeared.
This happend also on a machine with the same hardware setup. Also an update from a previous version of kubuntu chrashes. For testing I installed Kubuntu 6.10 wich installed and worked without any problem.

I changed the file system from reiserfs as suggested in some answers/bug reports around
(e.g.: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/445199 ).
First I tried ext2, which did not work. Then I used the "use whole disk" option, where ext4 is used
but the installer chrashed again. ( I would really love to have karmik koala on that machine :-( )

In case you have the same problem or need some infos about my system I attached
the outout of hwinfo --short (in short_hwinfo.txt).

Merry Christmas!

This indicates that none of this has anything to do with reiserfs or whatever; instead, there's been a problem reading from the CD. This is generally due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, rather than being an installer bug as such. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, or to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers).
