obsolete series takes precedence over stable

Bug Description

I was working on https://launchpad.net/kabikaboo/+series today

The timeline shows obsolete as having precedence over stable.

If I move milestone 1.5, for instance, to obsolete instead of stable, the main download page ( https://launchpad.net/kabikaboo/ ) changes the primary download to the newest obsolete download instead of the newest stable download.

I think Launchpad is determining precedence by alphabetical order when it should be paying attention to the precedence inherent in the "series".

This relates to a general problem that obsolete series are not being ignored in many cases, such as looking for the latest download.

I'm not sure whether this is similar or not,
Say I have odd y in x.y.z as development and even as stable, then on the downloads page, the order will go

0.5.3
0.5.2
0.5.1 (I don't like .0 for development releases, it makes it sound stable)
0.4.1
0.4.0

What I want my users to see is 0.4.1 as the main download, while 0.5.3 should also be available for download as a development release. 0.5.2, 0.5.1, and 0.4.0 (and 0.3* series) shouldn't be displayed on the downloads page unless the user clicks something like "Show all releases". Also, I don't want to delete the other files.

Is this the same bug, or do I report a new one?

Thanks

I think this issue relates to bug 419733 [Downloads portlet should show latest stable release as well as latest]. Latest downloads and the downloads page needs to favour an clearly mark the development and stable series. It should not distract users with obsolete series. Both this bug and the one cited will probably be fixed in the same effort.
