Bug Description

Following error appears when an elipse (with stripe 1:1 fill) is attempted to be manipulated with node tool (after object to path is selected from menu). Adding a new node through double click on path causes crashes as well as any type of elipse path manipulation. "Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now. Automatic backups of unsaved documents were done to the following locations: /tmp/inkscape-"

reproduced with Inkscape 0.46+devel r22575 on OS X 10.5.8
I can't get a crash report or backtrace - Inkscape just dies, but doesn't close its window and is unresponsive.
Only console message line:

Emergency save activated!

Changed in inkscape:
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → High

- cannot reproduce this crash on Windows XP, Inkscape 0.47pre4, Oct 12.
- do I need to do something other than load the file, select the node tool, and double-click on the path?
- I notice that the double-click does not always produce a new node, sometimes I need to retry in order to get a new node.

It works for me the similar as with bug #463602 (which you did reproduce, see comment #7) - not consistently reproducible, but happens most of the time if I select all nodes with either <Ctrl+a> or the 'Select All' button on the tool bar before dragging the shape by one of its nodes or inserting a node or otherwise manipulate the path with the node edit tool.

This bug only affects me if I have a bitmap also included in the file---removing the bitmap (in my case a large (14MB) TIFF file) enables the pattern to be modified without Inkscape crashing.

I'm on Ubuntu Jaunty, Inkscape 0.46

Cheers!
