Hi,

I attach the PulseAudio log.

I have not audio at the moment, but I have tried to play mp3 file with Totem and Vlc. I have also tried to change volume level.

I list sounds with Live Distro, but I can't with installed version.
I have also installed (it is required) proprietary hardware drivers NVIDA and Smartlink modem.

Right, your issue is that the slmodemd is hogging the sound device,
and PulseAudio's module-udev-detect is bailing (perhaps incorrectly,
see my blog post) upon detecting this modem driver:

D: module-udev-detect.c: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0
is busy: yes

Two workarounds are given in my blog post, and to summarise you can
use module-detect instead of module-udev-detect, or you can kill
slmodemd.

I've Killed slmodemd to make fast test and removed proprietary modem driver.

Now i've got Audio!
:-D

I don't use analog modem, I don't have necessity to use it.
But I think that I shoud try to change module-udev-detect with module detect.

Thank You for your support!
I think that I'm not the only man with this audio and modem problem.

Hi! Please can you explain how did you get rid of your modem drivers? Low profile user here!

I upgraded from 9.04 and lost my sound.

I have looked in Device Manager and my HDA ATI SB Sound Card now has a ? beside it.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A100

I also have no devices in "Sound Preferences" hardware tab.

@Kelly Do you use model=auto quirk in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf?
Please file a separate bug using "ubuntu-bug alsa-base".

@Daniel

Forgive me, I am just a little above average "user". So I am not really sure what you are asking me.

I can file a separate bug, but I figured our bugs were the same. (Since we had so many similar issues).

This is the first time I am submitting a bug, do the same rules apply to bugs as they do for "RTFM" lazy searches in forums? Because I didn't want to resubmit a bug if one already exists.

Thanks.

It's always better to file a separate bug when dealing with audio. We
can triage them as appropriate.

Hi jscm,

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 464694

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.
