Bug Description

S.Higashi reports a mysterious disappearing translation. For message 857 here: https://translations.launchpad.net/josm/trunk/+pots/keys/ja/+translate?field.alternative_language-empty-marker=1&show=untranslated&start=0

To reproduce: enter a Japanese translation, and submit. Then go back to the page; the message is still there, and sans the translation.

This was the proposed translation, though entering another text apparently produces the same effect:

FWIW, this sounds like our existing problem with single-message pages where error message is not shown when there is a syntax error (usually due to gettext format checks).
