Bug Description

Some GNOME (GTK) windows do not redraw correctly when I scroll them. The problem occurs when I use the scrollbars and when I use the mouse's scrollwheel.

I'm running Dapper, I have the latest updates (as of May 6, 2006).

Windows in which the behavior is easy to notice :
Gaim (horizontal scrolling of the buddy list)
GNOME Keyboard preferences (Go in the "layout options" tab, expand the "group shift/lock behavior" twisty, scroll.)

I suspect one of these packages to be the problems :
X.org (7.0.0 ubuntu 40)
GNOME (many packages. 2.14.1 ubuntu 2)
libgtk2.0-0 (2.8.17-1 ubuntu 4)
nvidia-glx (1.0.8756+2.6.15.9-3)
nvidia-kernel-common (20051028+1)

My computer is an
  Athlon XP 2400+
  1GB Ram
Video Card : NVidia GeForce 6600GT (MSI NX6600GT)

The problem occurs with every GTK theme I tried so far (human, clearlooks and simple).

This screenshot shows the scrolling redraw bug in Gaim. The line of dots is supposed to be text.

This only happens with gaim? or does it hit other gtk programs also?

This bug happens in many GTK applications. I associated it with Gaim simply because this is where it annoys me the most.

The bug also manifests itself in the "GNOME Keyboard preferences"

  1) go in the "layout options" tab
  2) expand "group shift/lock behavior"
  3) scroll

what videocard and videodriver do you use? Is that dependant of the GTK theme you use?

Does it happen if you change the xorg videodriver between nv and nvidia?

The problem stops when I switch to the nv driver. I tested this just before you added the comment yesterday.

I don't really need 3D so I'll just use the "nv" driver for now. I'll come back to this bug when I have more time to see if newer nvidia drivers still have the problem.
