I think this is important because what about if im in another computer, i dont want to have stored my password and logs there.

In addition to Ricardo's point, I don't want anybody with physical or root access to my *home* machine to have my *work* chat account passwords, and vice-versa. Since (I hear) Empathy is becoming the default chat client in Karmic, I think it's important to address this bug before Karmic goes out, even if it's no more than adding some text saying "your password will be stored on disk; if you don't like this you can use one of these other chat packages". Of course adding an option to ask each time would be ideal.

Sorry, I have a question. I always use Pidgin (Mandriva and freebsd), now (I'm at work) we use Ubuntu and I start to use Empathy. The problem is: My machine is shared and realized that my passwords and history are being saved. How do I change it?

Yes Jubs, this is, indeed a problem. There is no way to not store your password with Empathy. Empathy developers have known about this for some time and have not seen fit to fix it, and for some unthinkable reason, Ubuntu allowed this incomplete app to become the default for Karmic.

You may want to watch this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/118800 for progress, though disappointingly, it's been marked "Won't Fix" for Karmic. I would just use Pidgin.
