I spend several hours trying to fix this.

The problem is related to postgresql and how the the deb package manager of postgresql has changed the default authentification.

Simply open pg_hba.conf, for me located in /etc/postgresql/8.3/main/pg_hba.conf

and change the line

local all all #ident sameuser

into

local all all trust#ident sameuser

This might be a security issue on your system

I also had problems unstalling it.

I had to create a sys link to my apache2

sudo -s apache2 apache

I cannot unistall it even in Lucid and using version 8.4

I tried to do as monkeyking said:
sudo gedit pg_hba.conf, for me located in /etc/postgresql/8.3/main/pg_hba.conf
local all all #ident sameuser → local all all trust#ident sameuser
But there is no "local all all #ident sameuser"

I would be happy if I could remove the package. However, dpkg keeps trying to configuring it and failing. Same issue as Michael MORONI.

Is there a way to remove this for good? I am sick of getting an error after every update!!!
