Bug Description

When inserting usb media, an icon does not appear on the gnome desktop

When inserting usb media, an icon does not appear on the gnome desktop. Also it does not automount it either. When running tail -f /var/log/messages it does show the device being plugged in and unplugged. I am using Ubuntu Hoary 5.04 Stable release with stock kernel.

tail -f /var/log/messages output::

Apr 13 10:18:57 localhost kernel: sda: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled
Apr 13 10:18:57 localhost kernel: SCSI device sda: 251905 512-byte hdwr sectors (129 MB)
Apr 13 10:18:57 localhost kernel: sda: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled
Apr 13 10:18:57 localhost kernel: /dev/scsi/host5/bus0/target0/lun0: p1
Apr 13 10:18:57 localhost kernel: Attached scsi removable disk sda at scsi5, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
Apr 13 10:18:57 localhost scsi.agent[19294]: disk at /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0c.0/usb1/1-2/1-2:1.0/host5/target5:0:0/5:0:0:0
Apr 13 10:19:26 localhost kernel: usb 1-2: USB disconnect, address 13

also once this media is plugged in and cd /media/usbdisk which is /dev/sda1 it does not get automounted.

Investigation indicates that this is a problem with the automounting scripts, and at least one suggestion was made that this may be related to a hardware or filesystem issue on the target disk. It needs to be reproduced on a couple different USB drives with the relevant log details to confirm.

do you still have the issue? That works fine for me. Could you do what is described by the wiki page to comment?

Any reason why this bug shouldn't be rejected?

That works fine for me and other people and you no reply from the submitter yet, I'm rejecting the bug. Feel free to reopen if you still have the issue and want to reply to the comments about that
