Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Since the last Firefox update to version 3.0.10, I experience too, extreme slowness using Firefox on multiple talbs.
Flash seems to work ok, my ATI graphics card drivers work fine too. As well as the whole environment. Firefox is the only slow part in my machine. I recently upgraded from ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04 and the transission worked fine.
I am submitting that bug because other use different distros or versions of ubuntu

i don't see a reason why 3.0.10 would be much slower; maybe you also got an update for your graphics driver? Also consider to check if your extensions cause this (go to tools -> addons and disable them for instance).

Oh. we also have a moonlight plugin package in archive; consider to use that instead of the extension you installed.

I have similar issues. Firefox is unusably slow (I mean it. I have switched temporarily to Konqueror to work around the problem). Pages with a large # of table rows seem to be the worst. Scrolling takes a second or more to update.

My hardware is Nvidia, with an otherwise stable core2duo machine.

Software wise, I disabled all extensions except the Ubuntu extensions, and had no improvement. Clearing my profile and generating a new one was similarly useless. Running firefox in safe mode did not work either.

ok thanks. if you are using nvidia driver try the free "nv" one; if its a nvidia driver issue that usually helps.

Same problem here. In Hardy I would frequently have ~20 tabs open and it was fine but now much less than that is super slow. I currently have 5 open and it is painfully slow, basically unusable. I have ATI graphics and I am using the free driver (I think) Last I checked fglrx was not available on Jaunty. I am running Kubuntu too BTW. Scrolling takes a second or more to update, Flash is unsuably slow (youtube is useless right now), tabs take about 2 seconds or more to switch, and it eats up 85-110% of my 1.9 AMD Athlon X2 dual core as reported by the cmd line utility top. I have Mplayer plugin installed, Openoffice plugin, and flash. I had the Web developer toolbar and useragent switcher extensions installed but I disabled them.

I confirm the problem. Firefox eats up (according to top) 75-95% CPU, I can hear the fan working all the time, scrolling is very slow. I am running Firefox 3.0.11 with the only extension being Ubuntu Firefox Modification 0.7.
