Bug Description

It seems, that in UPR 8.04.2 GnuPG is compiled without the IDEA-Plugin.

Yes, we removed it because Werner Koch informed us, that distributing gnupg with built-in IDEA-Module violates the GPL.
If you use "extended Truecrypt-Volumes" you should easily be able to solve this by adding

load-extension /media/<your_extended_truecrypt_volume>/<path_to_the_idea_module>

to the gpg.conf inside the "extended Truecrypt Volume".

The best solution should be - if possible - not to use IDEA and tell your Buddies to do the same.

This bug should be opened again, because the IDEA patent expired in 2007.
So the IDEA-module does not any longer violate the GPL.

According to Wikipedia, the patent expires on May the 16th, 2011 in Europe and sometime this year in the US. Where did you get this information from?

Sorry, I just read it a few days ago at http://www.gnupg.org/why-not-idea.html that it expired in 2007.
But that page is now replaced by a redirection to http://www.gnupg.org/faq/why-not-idea.html where they have no reference to when the pantent expires any more. I guess it was wrong information then.

Please re-open; if the patent expired in 2010 in the US, and in 2011 in Europe, patent concerns should not be a blocker for building the IDEA module.
