Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I'm attempting to connect to a DAAP server on another LAN, using the "Connect to DAAP Share.." command in the "Music" menu. After typing in the hostname, and waiting a minute or so, it comes back with an error "Could not connect to shared music: Unauthorized".

The DAAP server is setup to require a password, yet Rythmbox never asks for this password when attempting to connect to it.

Still having this bug on 0.12.7: connecting to a password protected mt-daap share which is outside the internal LAN fails. It just times out with no message and no password prompt. The same daap share is accessible with no issues through other clients such as Songbird. It would be nice if daap plugin in Rhytmbox is tweaked in a way to support such non-LAN shares.

I can confirm this under Lucid running Rhythmbox 0.12.8 on amd64 hardware. However, I am able to connect to another machine's Rhythmbox shares fine from the aforementioned. The other machine is running gNewSense Rhythmbox 0.11.6 on mipsel hardware.

I can confirm that in Rhythmbox in the Ubuntu 10.10 official release version (and updates as of 5th Nov 2010) that this is still an issue.

The dapp share name appears in Rhythmbox, and you can double click it, but get no further. There is never a password prompt window for the daap share password to be entered into. In my case the Daap share is on a Dlink NAS box DNS-323, firmware 1.08.

Some related things have changed in 10.10 with respect to 10.04. In 10.04, with the default install Samba Configuration, Banshee was also unable to connect to the same daap share.

This was filed as:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/498697
    https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=626388
An edit was required to the "/etc/samba/smb.conf" file, for Banshee to be able to connect. In 10.10 Banshee works without any configuration changes being required.
