evolution died on startup

it pops up this dialog

I believe it was due to the libbonobo2 upgrade.

Thanks for your bug. Does ~/.xsession-errors has anything about that? Have you
restarted your session after the upgrade?

there deffinitely seems to be something weird going on. I've restarted, and it
works fine now (but I had multiple reboots before as well).

If I'm at 2.3.7-0ubuntu2 and I upgrade to 2.3.7-0ubuntu3, then I seem to have to
restart the session to let evo work, even if I downgrade to 2.3.7-0ubuntu2.

Don't know whats going on.

ok, it happened again. drove up to boston, booted up laptop, logged in, started
evolution, it gave me that error.

ctrl-alt-backspace'd to kill X, logged in again, tail -f .xsession-errors,
started evolution, started fine.

sigh.

I'm wondering if it was because I was having hard disk trouble. Eventually my
ext3 partition just went kaput, and I've reinstalled and rsync'd my entire home
directory back in place (have it backed up every night via rsync) and everything
"seems" fine.

well, the error has come back.

this is the error that printed to terminal (or .xsession-error)

** (evolution:7625): WARNING **: Failed to send buffer

** (evolution:7625): WARNING **: Failed to send buffer
evolution-shell-Message: Killing old version of evolution-data-server...

** (evolution:7625): WARNING **: Failed to send buffer

** (evolution:7625): WARNING **: Failed to send buffer

(evolution:7625): e-utils-WARNING **: No parent set, or default parent available
for error dialog

if I quit the session (ctrl-alt-backspace) it seems to "fix" it as evolution can
then startup when I login again.

do you still have this issue with GNOME 2.12?

Shaya Potter (spotter) wrote :

I think the issue has to do w/ the mail-notification program (I took debian
source and rebuilt it for my machine) and is exposing some bug in the bonobo
infrastucture, as I'm not using it right now and not having an issue, but when I
use it, I have problems from time to time that both can't be loaded at the same
time. Haven't used it in a while and haven't had a problem.

Does this issue persist with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS?
