[needs-packaging] wordpress should package localization files

Bug Description

"I wonder what is the proper way to localize wordpress for ubuntu or debian. I'd like one wordpress to be in German and another one in Japanese. http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_in_Your_Language has some information but that is basically for unpackaged, "straight from the tar" wordpress."

I posed this question on answers.launchpad.net. I am getting the feeling that the answer is "it still needs to be packaged" either included in the main wordpress package or separately.

Localization infos on a per-blog basis can be found in /usr/share/doc/wordpress/README.Debian .
Localization files download seems not yet available for ubuntu.
To proper localize wordpress downloading .po e .mo files should suffice.
I'd change bug status to invalid or need-packaging.

There is no status "needs-packaging", but essentially that is what this bug report is about (see original report). Maybe there is such a tag, I am not sure.

BTW, /usr/share/doc/wordpress/README.Debian does not have any relevant information for this problem. And even if it did, one still has to manually download the localization files. It would be nice if those were managed by a package.

Great to see this fixed. I think it would make sense to package the localization files separately.

$ du -sh usr/share/wordpress/
16M usr/share/wordpress/
$ du -sh usr/share/wordpress/wp-content/languages/
7,1M usr/share/wordpress/wp-content/languages/
