I also have this problem, for me it appears to occur during the installation of EITHER 'emacs22-gtk' or 'emacs22-nox'.

I get an identical error apart from the different package names and a different temp file.

I am attaching one of the temporary files I recieved with this error.

Thanks in advance for any help.

@Matthew Gadd: your problem seems unrelated to this one, at least superficially. The error message simply means that some package failed to install, but there are a lot of different packages and a lot of reasons they could fail to install. The file you attached seems to imply that you do not have emacs22 installed, although somehow your system tried to install a package for emacs22 anyway. Is this still a problem? Were you upgrading from emacs21 to emacs22? In any event, it would perhaps be best to submit a separate bug report, if you still have this problem.

I also met this problem. My solution was to 1st remove emacs22 (and all packages depend on it), then reinstall emacs22. It works.

without the compilation log, I fear there is nothing we can do. We should really look into adding an apport hook into our emacs packages so that these compilation logs are automatically attached, though.

In order to not confuse future bug reporters, I'm marking this bug as invalid. If someone encounters this issue again, please make sure to attach the compilation log.
