Bug Description

Inkscape 0.92.1 r15371
Ubuntu Release 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) 64-bit
Kernel Linux 4.10.0-33-generic x86_64
MATE 1.18.0

When I go to File -> Document Properties, the properties window appears. There are no button s on the bottom and I Can see the window is being cut off early. I tried to resize the window, and it will not resize. To clarify more, I can resize the width of the window, but not the height of the window. The resizing icon does appear when the mouse is in position to do so, but the window will not resize. To clarify the cutoff, if I position the window to the top most position, I am still unable to get to the bottom of the window. The window will not allow me to position it any higher than the visible top. I can however, position the window horizontally past the visible area of the screen, like I am moving a portion of the window off of the screen to another.

I have since upgraded to Ubuntu 17.10, the issue is unchanged. The problem is I cannot save anything with no access to the OK button or what ever label it has.

Partial fixes already landed in master and 0.92.x branches, see previously linked bug #1510831. If you can test those changes and give feedback on any potentially remaining issues in the linked bug this would be very helpful!

I experience the same issue, but my version is not updated. Could you direct me to the PPA to obtain the version to try this on? I am currently on Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06).

The PPA was not here in my Ubuntu, so I added it back in. I did the update to version Inkscape 0.92.2 (unknown), from the PPA https://launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/+archive/ubuntu/stable.

On this version, the problem still exists.

Hi Brian, you'd need to use the PPA at [1] to get the latest build from the 0.92.x branch (i.e. future 0.92.3). The PPA you linked has the latest stable released version (0.92.2).

Thank you for that information. I have added that PPA and ran update. There was no newer version of Inkscape offered to me.

Ahh, I see. The version I have is: 0.92.2+68~ubuntu17.10.1
This version is of a higher version than the one offered at the PPA you provided: 0.92.2-15598+69~ubuntu18.04.1. Is there an alternative way to do this? Maybe I should remove the other PPA, or? I would prefer not to force and lock a version as it seems that usually creates issues.

While waiting on the above, I 'downgraded' Inkscape using the PPA you provided, and oddly end up with Inkscape reporting the same version of "Inkscape 0.92.2 (unknown". But it did change, as the document properties window is now what I would call a normal properties window, appropriately sized and looking like I would expect it to. This window is not resizable, but I do not need to. I just wanted to note this as the ability to resize was in my initial query.

Fedora 26(x64), Inkscape 0.92.2, Ukrainian locale. Defect is still
reproducible by initial scenario.

If it helps, I an running Ubuntu MATE 17.10, 64 bit, English UK and US both installed and used.

The exact version I have installed that is working properly is: 0.92.2-15598+69~ubuntu17.10.1

Ubuntu is debian based, but Fedora is not, so I am unsure how the comparisons need to me made.

So, this is how it looks on Linux Min 18.3, on a 1280x1024 screen, first with the dialog as small as possible:

That should have been Linux Mint, of course.

And this is how it looks if the dialog is unfolded, the smallest possible size:
