Bug Description

Hi Friends,
In both 0.92pre3 and 0.92 stable, if Document Properites is undocked, it's taller than my screen is. My screen is a typical 15 inch laptop screen at the default resolution (which is 1366 x 768).

The problem is that it can't be sized any shorter. I can make it wider and narrower, and I can make it taller, but not shorter. I can't see anything below Border > Show page border > Border on top of drawing.

Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit, Inkscape 0.92 stable.

Any files or other info you need, let me know.

Thanks :-)

which requests a more compact layout for the dialog which has hugely increased in size over time.

@Brynn - a workaround (for now) on small screens is to access the lower parts of the dialog is to dock it in the main window. You can then use the scrollbar of the dock itself to scroll down to the bottom of the dialog (inside the dock).

Thanks suv. Geez you're fast!

I did search for existing reports, but that didn't come up in my search. Sorry.

I didn't read the other report very closely, because it's long, and somewhat technical. But I don't consider my screen to be small or "smaller". I suppose though, that it's not large.

I guess just putting a scrollbar in the window would be too easy?

Apart from possibly not even being that "easy", some will consider it bad UI (in general dialogs do not scroll, content can scroll in dialogs). If a dialog is too large to fit on a small (or not so small, it's also depending on the font size and spacing/padding of the GUI theme) screen, this is often an indicator to rethink the content (e.g. the number of options, the amount of text) displayed on a single page and/or the overall layout/structure of the dialog.

But if such a scrollable dialog is what users want - likely someone will add it (as requested). Retracting my earlier proposal to link as duplicate to bug #1510831 in this case (personally I'd favour a redesign of the whole dialog instead of the scrollbar, obviously ;-) ).

Targeting 0.93 for now, but it would be great it we could find (at least) a workaround to make the dialog more easy to use in the 0.92.x branch.

Oh, I see.

So yes, that is already over my head. I didn't mean to suggest putting in a scrollbar as a serious design or programming suggestion. It's just my simple-minded thought which seems like a simple solution.

I'm sure you're right, that redesigning or reformatting the dialog is better.

Not so many months ago (well, less than a year, I would guess) someone on the mailing list was trying to redesign it, all alone. He (or she, not sure, don't remember) was removing what some thought to be vital functions, just to save space. Ultimately, I think they either changed one small thing, or didn't change anything (I can't remember specifics).

I'll be interested to watch the discussion (assuming it happens on the list) as the redesign is discussed.

I don't mind if you keep it as a duplicate. Whatever you think is best :-)

Thanks again.
