Bug Description

Since it is common to find oneself working at the edge of the window and desire to be recentered, I suggest that some kind of command accessible with a single keystroke be implemented that would cause the image to pan so that the current mouse position moves to the center of the window.

Does the 3 key solve the problem? Zoom selection to fit canvas?

Or can you use your mouse to scroll what you're working on back to the center? I don't use the regular kind of mouse, so I can't explain how to do it (because I don't know) but with my mouse, I can scroll. I know it's not the same as panning. But just offering ideas.

I can use the mouse to scroll, and that is what I do. It is much less than ideal for two reasons: I'd like to use keys rather than mouse as much as possible, and the amount it scrolls is difficult to control, especially using the two-finger movement on the mousepad, and I often find myself scrolling completely away from the image and I have difficulty finding it again.

I really think a "recenter" key would be loved by people.

Please read the manual [1] - '3' zooms to selection, if nothing is
selected, there's nothing to zoom to (Note: '3' does work just fine even
on OS X).

The 3 key would not be useful for the problem at hand. The point is that the zoom is actually just fine, it is the position of the canvas on the window that needs adjusted. And a key that requires a selection beforehand would not be useful for this, because the whole idea is that this is a COMMON situation while editing and should be solved by a very quick, easy keystroke that will not require switching away from the tool being used. For example, you might be using the node editor and editing a very long line, close-up. When you hit the edge of the window, you want to pan it to center the mouse cursor in the window without having to leave the node editor tool.
