Bug Description

For personal and professional document management I used to scan a lot of documents and save it in PDF format but with TIFF (CCITT Group 4) image and 1-bit depth for the lowest file size and I'de like to do that directly with simple scan.

I tested difference of size scanning a printed colour copy of testpage.ps.gz from hplip-data package.
- Scanning with simple scan at 300dpi and text mode i saved a pdf file with 204kb size
- Scanning directly from my HP Officejet Pro 8500 at 300dpi I saved a pdf with internal TIFF (CCITT Group 4) with 91kb size

Can you add option for 1-bit scanning mode in simple-scan and save PDF file with internal TIFF (CCITT Group 4)

I think a lot of people that need to scan a lot of documents and archive it appreciate black-and-white mode.

Changed in simple-scan:
status: New → Triaged
importance: Undecided → Wishlist

I found LINEART mode in ScanMode enum (scanner.vala) can you simply re-enable this mode in the choice in the ui

I think normal users will be happy to select:
- Color for photo (jpg)
- Gray for hi-res document (jpg-gray or pdf)
- Lineart for archive document (pdf 1-bit depth or tiff CCITT Group 4)

In this way Simple Scan will be remain simple but not poor.
