Bug Description

From time to time the boot process of Ubuntu 12.10 hangs after finding usb devices (after first 3 lines of attached LastScreen.txt). After some minutes a last screen (LastScreen.txt) apears (First 3 lines describe last found USB device and are different when different devices connected during boot).
Pressing ctrl+alt+del causes no reaction and power off/on required to reboot.
With best regards.
Viktor.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.9 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Many thanks for quick answer!
3.9.0-030900rc4-generic kernel has the same bug. Last screen atached.

The same problem found using Lenovo Z480 and Z580 (my is Z580A) with Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10. See
http://askubuntu.com/questions/235942/ubuntu-12-04-and-12-10-fails-to-boot-after-usb-1-1-4
To workaround they use an old version of kernel: kernel 3.2.0-29-generic.
The same problem with Z580 found at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+question/215279
They found a workaround to remove a battery during boot with AC connection.
I did not try it. There is not so good idea for me but may be a key to solve a problem.
Also the same problem reported at
http://askubuntu.com/questions/225538/uefi-boot-failure-hang-after-printing-usb-information
I try both variant of booting: with and without EFI. No difference.
I replaced a memory from 2+4 GB to 8 GB (Kingston 2x4GB KIT). The regularity of unsuccessful boots does not change.

Viktor Mileikovskyi, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc3

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

I would like to add that 100% workaround for this "Bug" is plugging out your battery. After successful booting you may plug it in again and instead of shutting down the system suspend.
