dolphin has no share folder option

Asked by newbie50

I have installed to share my folders on my Kubuntu PC on my windows pc. I can see and get access to my kubuntu pc from my windows machine and see my shared printers. I cannot see or share any of my files. I cannot share a file on my dolphin file manager. I can access Samba Shares but cannot add to it. The Samba shares folder is empty. It does not look like I am sharing anything. I have followed the Ubunto documentation from:https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpSamba

 Sharing a Folder

To share a directory you must have permission to access the directory. Go to your home directory ( Places -> Home folder). Right click on the "Documents" directory and in the pop up menu select "Share Folder".

If samba is not installed you will get a pop up menu "Sharing services are not installed". Select "Install Windows networks support (SMB)" and deselect "Install Unix networks support (NFS)" -> then click "Install services".

If you get an error message that the samba .deb could not be found, open a terminal and update apt-get.

I have done all of this but I cannot get to the Shared folder or make one to share.

Hi there. Networking can be a real pain. I'd advise you to install a simple GUI share manager I like, the package is called system-config-samba. It depends on all the necessary samba packages. Install it by your preferred means. After that, you can find it either in the kmenu or launch it via run dialog (alt + F2) with word "samba" (should be first entry). The gui is pretty straight forward, browse to folder you want to share and configure as you desire. It's only a server configuration utility, your other computer shares should be easily accessible via Dolphin's Network area (under Places). That they aren't, I assume means your missing a component of samba that will install with above package.

Hope that clears it up.

On another note,if you click on any folder and click on properties and go to the share folder option, you can configure everything there.
This is with Lucid Lynx 10.04

Can you help with this problem?
