Repair errors with Please use this software in a live-session. This will enable this feature.

Asked by Simon Steele

I'm using a Ubuntu 19.10 live-USB.
Once I log in to the Ubuntu live-USB session, I run the following commands in a terminal to install boot-repair:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo add-apt-repository universe
sudo apt update
sudo apt install boot-repair

Then I run boot-repair, I click on "Recommended repair (repairs most frequent problems)" and I get the following:

"Please use this software in a live-session (live-CD or live-USB). This will enable this feature."

But I *am* in a live-USB session.

I'm on a dual-boot Windows 10 / Ubuntu 19.10 HP Spectre laptop. I was trying to solve issues with my video card, think I changed something in GRUB 2 settings that means it won't boot into my Ubuntu anymore.
So i'm trying to run boot-repair to fix GRUB.

I'm very grateful for any assistance... i'm pulling my hair out! Cheers.

You have to boot into a "boot repair live system", and not into an "Ubuntu live system where you then add boot-repair".

Can you help with this problem?
