BlogGTK starts but never opens ((K)Ubuntu 10.04

Asked by Patrick Dickey

I have both the Kubuntu and Ubuntu desktops installed on my computer, and when I start BlogGTK (in Ubuntu), the "Starting BlogGTK" title appears in the taskbar at the bottom, then goes away. BlogGTK never opens.

I installed it through the Ubuntu Software Center, and have just tried "installing" it (along with all of the required dependencies) through apt-get. I'm at a loss, since the other option I tried doesn't format my posts correctly (Blog Entry Poster).

Any suggestions for what to do about this are greatly appreciated.

Thanks, and have a great day:)
Patrick.

[UPDATE]:

I added the PPA to Ubuntu's repository, did an apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade. It upgraded BloGTK to the latest version in the PPA, and everything works as expected now. Hopefully Ubuntu will update their repository with the latest (2.0.x) version that your PPA has, so this problem doesn't surface for others.

And hopefully Ubuntu will update their python-gdata libraries soon, so you can include Tags in posts. I've got well over 500 posts on my blog, and am slowly categorizing them. So, I need an offline writer that will allow me to put the tags in (aside from that and minor issues with creating numbered lists and how the "Preview" screen doesn't resemble the final product, this is the best Linux-based writer that I've found).

Have a great day:)
Patrick.

I also installed all of the required dependencies through apt-get per the FAQ (on the Homepage). There were a couple of libraries that weren't installed, if I remember correctly.

What do I need to run BloGTK 2.0?

These packages are needed to run BloGTK 2.0. Your particular Linux distribution may have different names for some of them:

For Ubuntu 10.04 “Lucid Lynx” and Above

    * python (2.6.2 recommended. BloGTK is not Python 3 compatible.)
    * python-gtk2
    * python-gnome2
    * python-gtkspell
    * pythong-gtksourceview2
    * python-feedparser
    * python-gdata
    * python-webkit

In Ubuntu 10.04, the old python-gnome2-extras package was removed and replaced with smaller subpackages.

For Other Distributions

    * python (2.6.2 recommended. BloGTK is not Python 3 compatible.)
    * python-gtk2
    * python-gnome2
    * python-gnome2-extras
    * python-feedparser
    * python-gdata
    * python-webkit

Hope this helps.
Patrick.
