Keybindings does not work in Gnome-Terminal or Konsole

Asked by Daniel 'f0o' Preussker

This is a serious problem involving the developers of both, Gnome-Terminal and Konsole.

These Terminal-Emulators claim to be xterm conform and claim to be designed for xterm-applications as we see in their package description:
"Description: The GNOME 2 terminal emulator application
GNOME Terminal is a terminal emulation application that you can use to perform the following actions:
 * Access a UNIX shell in the GNOME environment.
 * Run any application that is designed to run on VT102, VT220, and xterm
 terminals.

GNOME Terminal features the ability to use multiple terminals in a single window (tabs) and profiles support."

This is NOT the case!
while xterm can handle the keybinding sequences inside bash, Gnome-Terminal and Konsole will seg.-fault because they send different chars on keystrokes.

I've personally mailed both, the creator of Gnome-Terminal and the developer's Mailing-list of KDE's Konsole.
This is now roughly a week ago and havent got any respond yet from neither of them...

One thing is clear, I will not hardcore Gnome-Terminal and Konsole's oddities into bIRC since neither of them are easy-to-go identifiable inside a shell-script and having dupe-keybindings is not what I call "Clean Code"

For further Informations I suggest you to ask the responsible developers at Gnome and KDE.

When/If they answer my mail(s), I will instantly post their responses here.
