Asked by Patrick van der Leer

I've just run updates and got the message from blockwood, since I'm using other services to sync my bookmarks I won't use it. I'm pretty privacy aware so I would appreciate it if there would be a question first, if I want the sync service or not.

Hi!

Did Bindwood install for you automatically? Can you explain the steps a bit more on how you got Bindwood? Did you just do a system update in Lucid Beta, start Firefox and then see that Bindwood was installed?

Thank you,

Joshua

Joshua,

I basicly just ran the updates, nothing more, by the next start up of
FireFox BindWood started syncing my bookmarks automaticly. I can imagine
this to be a great service for normal users but not for people who are in
the IT themself and like to keep track of there (private)data.

I've only ran the security updates sinces so if you need any logs or version
numbers of the current running services, I'm happy to provide them.

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for the reply! It's strange that Bindwood is enabled for you without you ever installing it intentionally as Bindwood is not installed by default. You either need to install it via the normal Ubuntu software management tools (Software Center, apt-get, etc.) or you need to install it via the Ubuntu One Preferences through the "Services" tab. Either way, you can disable syncing of bookmarks, contacts, etc. via the Ubuntu One Preferences "Services" tab. I'm assuming you're on Lucid or using our beta PPA. If you are using Karmic then you can simply remove Bindwood via a terminal session: sudo apt-get remove bindwood

Thank you,

Joshua
