Can it import catalog from Gnome Catalog

Asked by pt123

Gnome Catalog was the only other Gnome based catogling software that was updated some what before Basenji came allong. But it seems to be dead. Would Besengi be able to import the Gnome Catalog's catlog?

I had a quick look at gnomecatalogs fileformat.
An import doesn't seem to be too hard to be done and should be available in the next release.

Thanks that would be awesome, does that include the thumbnails that application creates?

Yes, thumbnail import should be possible, though I'm not sure yet if i can map every single GnomeCatalog metadata item to its respective Basenji metadata item (e.g. movie bitrate).

Thanks, those additional type of data like movie bitrate I am not interested in.

I've finished the gnomecatalog import, the next major release won't be released within the next few month though.
Please let me know if you're interested in a pre-release build to see if it works as expected.

That is very good news.

I would be interested do you have a daily PPA?

No, I don't run a daily ppa, only the stable one.
I uploaded the test package here: http://drop.io/fhpy2on3493
Please compare esp. imported thumbnails and folder structures against their orginal gnomecatalog counterparts. Please also check converted metadata like image dimensions and mp3 tags.

I tried to Import but there seems to be a bug as I not able to browse to select the file nor even click on another radio button

The two other options are disabled intentionally as those aren't implemented yet.
Does GnomeCatalog support multiple databases? I thought it always uses ~/gnomeCatalog.db (this is where the import reads from).

Yeah it supports multiple catalogs, and lets you choose where to save the database too.

So the db file is located /media/data/cat/Docs.gcatalog
it will place the thumbs in this folder /media/data/cat/Docs.gcatalog_thumbs/

ok, stupid me, just noticed that :-)
in the meantime you can try to rename/copy your database to ~/gnomeCatalog.db and ~/gnomeCatalog.db_thumbs.

Thanks I did and it seemed to have imported it fine.

The metadata seems to fine, but I have only tested on volumes with video files.

The location field metadata is using %20 for spaces like web links. Eventhough it is correct is possible to display it without them.
Also the duration field seems to be in seconds and is it possible to display Hours and minutes?

Finally the thumbnails don't show up in the browse view but only show up in the file info view, is it possible to have them displayed in the browse & search view.

I will try and test it on a dvd with mp3s to see how the metadata is picked up.

By the way a very neat application

Thanks, glad you like it :-)
I'll fix these issues and upload a new testbuild soon.
Regarding the thumbnails in the browse view:
could you file a bugreport so i can come back at it later?

Sorry for the late response, I'm very busy recently.
However, here is a fresh build that should fix all the issues you've reported.
The duration format is still a tad unsexy, but this is the format that Basenji
receives from libextractor when scanning media, and I want the data to be
as consistend as possible.

Please let me know about further problems.

thanks it imported fine using the browse option.

As for the duration it is displaying it as 51m34 now which is fine.
