disk crash

Asked by darkshine231

Hello everybody,

It's perhaps a silly question, but can I recover from a total disk crash with backintime, if the snapshot is on a external drive ?

I must simply reinstall back in time dans select the snapshot directory on the external drive ?

Thanks in advance for the answer.

have a nice day

What you have to do is reinstall your distribution, then install backintime.
Go to the upper folder of what you want to restore (eg the root) of your
backup and push recover. Then wait a long time -> your folders will be
recovered completely. A warning message or a busy indicator for recovery are
not yet implemented.

A small other warning: hidden files and folders (starting with a .) are not
backupped by default (remove the .* pattern from the exclusion patterns, and
add excluded folders for your .cache and (.local/share/Trash folders)

Cheers,
Bart
