Problems with some characters in filenames

Asked by thor

Deer Dan,

I found out that backintime has problems with some characters in folder- or filenames. So it does *not* backup files oder folders that contain a "&". I do not know if backintime (rsync) has problems with with german umlauts like ü, ä, ö and/or spaces in folder or filenames too. I controlled a couple of files and it seems to be ok.

Does anyone have this problem too?

Thanks in advance

Thorsten

Dear Thorsten,

this is due a bug in the main window. Encountering an & in a folder or filename it will display the name it used last (most probably the file direct under). The actual rsync and cp commands do not have any problems with an &. When you go with nautilus to your backup folder the names should be correct. Also restore will name the files correctly.
I also did not encounter any problems with umlauts or whatever.

Cheers,
Bart

Deer Bart,

thank you very much for your answer. I tried the following:

I created a folder "Debeka & Beihilfe" and did a backup with backintime on an external ext3 formatted hdd.
Backintime schows me only a folder with no name. Thunar and pcmanfm schow the folder. A restore works without problems!

Thank you!

Regards

Thorsten
