backup profiles, compression, file permissions

Asked by nyiti

I'm impressed! I've just tried Back In Time, and it does almost what I currently do with a bash script using dar archiver and rsync, and the interface is very easy to understand.

I'm missing these features:

backup profiles: allowing the user to save a set of directories and their schedule settings saved as a kind of profile, so the user can have different, separate snapshots and manage them.

bzip or other compression method that preserves the file permissions inside the archive file, so the backup archive itself can be stored on an NTFS without losing the file permission settings. Very useful when the user home folders are on a small partition, and the large data files are stored on a large NTFS partition.

Thank you for all the coding, have a bugfree spring!

Great feedback. I would consider opening a bug for each individual item (or I can do it for you, if you prefer) against Back in Time. That way the Back in Time author/team can work to ensure the features get included at a future data.

Sincerely,

Craig
