Why does BIT use sshfs?

Why does back in time use sshfs? I don't see it documented anywhere.

sshfs is used to mount the remote snapshot folder if you use the SSH mode. Take a look at 'man backintime'

If you don't use SSH mode you don't need to install sshfs. It is only recommended by backintime-common package.
