restore doesn't delete newer files

Asked by mike

I just restored a snapshot and it left a whole mess all over my system, because it didn't remove any newer files since the snapshot was taken.

if i restore to an earlier snapshot, i want my system to completely revert to how it was at the time the snapshot was taken. so, how do i make it delete any newer files (i.e. those not present in the snapshot)?

preferably i'd like an answer in commandline format, since when i just do [$ sudo backintime --restore] and pick the right image, it doesn't give any such option.

also is there a commandline toggle to make it not keep .backup.* files?

just so we're clear, i'm backing up my whole / except for a few exclusions: http://i.imgur.com/czlzLqg.jpg over to /mnt/backup which is a separate partition on another physical drive

thanks.

Starting with version 1.1.0 you can choose 'Restore and delete new files' in GUI. But only in GUI. There is no commandline argument for this yet. Please fill a bug report so I can add it to wish list.

To prevent creating the .backup.* files you need to switch off 'Backup files on restore' in Options. Take a look at https://answers.launchpad.net/backintime/+faq/2116

BTW please use 'sudo -H' to make sure /root is the correct homedir.

Can you help with this problem?
