Inside '20140704-104559-868' folder is there a 'backup' folder which contains your files? If not there was something wrong with your snapshot. You will find find further informations about what went wrong in '20140704-104559-868/takesnapshot.log.bz2'.

If everything is fine inside the '20140704-104559-868/backup/' folder then please double check the 'Auto Host/User/ProfileID' settings (e.g. upper/lower case). It must be exactly the same as the folders below 'backintime'. If this is all correct you will see a snapshot called '2014-07-04 10:45:59' in BackInTime Snapshots panel at the left hand side (below 'Now')

Yes I did see my "home" folder in there and all my files. I won't be able to be with the computer until this weekend. Will let you know.
where is the 'Auto Host/User/ProfileID' settings located?

Thank You for your time.

Ok...I think I see the problem,There appears to be 2 folders..as I drill down..starting with first folder backintime folder > (backintime and john-1015PE folder),If I choose backintime folder again,I get 2 folders (john-1015PE and Linux folders)if I go john-1015PE I get 1 folder named john, click on john I get folder named 1,click on that folder I get empty folder(nothing)....If I go back and click on Linux folder I get folder named john click on john get folder named 1 and folder 1 is also empty.........
Now if I go with folder john-1015PE (in the original backintime folder at top) I get 'john' folder -> '1' folder -> 20140704-104559-868 folder -> which contains backup folder ,fileinfo.bz2,info,takesnapshot.log.bz2 ...if I click on backup folder I get home folder then john folder (which has all my original home files and folders).....

Auto Host/User/ProfileID....
Host:[ john-1015PE] user: [john] profile id: [1]
Im assuming programe is seeing the empty john-1015PE folder.
How can I direct it to the john-1015PE folder which contains my home directory.....Do you recommending deleting all the empty folders? Would screenshots be helpful?
Thanks again.

This is because you selected the backintime folder in 'where to save snapshots'. E.g if your path is '/path/to/backintime/backintime' you need to select '/path/to' for 'where to save snapshots'. Then it will find your snapshots automatically.

Is there any way to make backintime see the folder I need it to?

There is no automatic function for this (yet). But you just need to click the folder icon next to 'where to save snapshots' and navigate to the folder above 'backintime'. That's all.

Can you help with this problem?
