How can I prevent the sub-sub-sub-directory structure?

Asked by Gerhard Großmann

Is it possible to just choose the folder where the back-ups are stored? At the moment in the chosen folder there will be automatically created the folders backintime/HOST/USER/NUMBER/. It’s not possible to aviod this subfolders (e.g. in the advanced option of the general tab).

This is a question of orderly nature and has nothing to do with functionality. But I really would like to decide by myself, where my back-up is saved and would prefer it if the data isn’t burried in four sub folders. Perfect would be CHOSEN-FOLDER/DATE.

I’m using version 1.0.7, maybe this has been “fixed” in the meantime.

There is no such function in current version, too. And I don't want to change these folderstructure.

What about symlinking the snapshot folder so you can easily access it? E.g.:
cd /mnt/disk
ln -s backup-data/backintime/HOST/USER/PROFILE_ID backup

Thank you for your fast answer. What a pity that it is “I don’t want to change these folderstructure”. I think a nested structure like this is unnecessarily complex for such a nice and easy to use back-up programm.

I’ll try it with symlinking, although it won’t be possible to geht the automatic backintime folder in the same folder as the date folders (without symlinking after each back-up).

If you may simplify the folder structure in the future, please let me know.

Sorry, this "I don't want to" was indeed a bit harsh. It was a decision made by Dan couple years ago when he introduced Profiles. I agree with you that it is a bit complex if you only use one system/user/profile but it perfectly makes sense if you add more of each later. If we would change to a simple structure we would have to check that this folder isn't already used by an other profile.

I don't understand your second line ("get automatic backintime folder in the same folder as the date folders"). May be I can help on that if you could describe what exactly you want to do.
