Hi Martin,
I can only speak for my self and don't know about Dan's plans.
You may have recognised the last changes that are available in version 1.0.20 in the BIT-Team PPA: Dan made a new notification center, I added a mode for backup to a remote ssh host and we fixed some bugs.
I'm now close to finish the branch lp:~bit-team/backintime/password which provide secure password storage for BIT to be used by ssh-mode and other upcoming modes. My next project will be an encfs mode for encrypted backups and a ssh-encfs-mode, which will be a little tricky.

oh, I didn't recognised because http://backintime.le-web.org/change-log/ is still 1.0.8. It reads very interesting, many thanks for your work!
