Directing backups to a Windows Share folder

Asked by Loren41

I am installing BIT on my ubuntu linux 12.04 laptop. I want to direct backups to a Samba Windows Share. < //laptop >
The server is unRAID from a Windows 7 pc.

The Where to Save Snapshots selection does not show my directory in the Places selection site. I tried smb://laptop and //laptop in the Advanced option but with no success. I rely mostly on GUI, but can edit files using the terminal.

Any suggestions?

Hi Loren41,

BIT does not (yet) support samba shares out of the box. But you can mount the share manually or with a 'user-callback' script. But you have to make sure that the share supports hard-links.
Or (if your server support ssh) you can try out the ssh-mode in new BIT version 1.0.20 on 'ppa:bit-team/stable'

Germar
