Moving user to new Host

Asked by scuba

Hi,

I've been doing my backups with BiT for just on three years now. I'll be moving my users to a new host machine shortly. My plan is to rsync -a user data to the new home. Once that is done, I'd like to stay "incremental" with BiT. The users will be identical on the new home.

I presume, all I really need to do is change the line: profileX.snapshots.path.host=NEWHOST and rename the directory into which BiT backs up OLDHOST=>NEWHOST.

Is this the correct method?

Thanks for a great piece of software!

Regards

Actualy you can do it from the settings : you can force a user / host / profile.

But if this is a "permanent" switch you can rename the host folder directly in snapshots path.
Snapshots are stored in: <SNAPSHOTS FOLDER>/backintime/<HOST>/<USER>/<PROFILE ID>.
You can simply rename <HOST> folder to <NEW HOST>.
