gnome3 in 12.04 is ignored and setted back to gnome2 ?

Asked by dschinn

Hello !

yes , ... I installed gnome3 resp. 3.2 and in the beginning gnome 3 was running on my desktop.
Suddenly after 12 hours gnome3 was falling back to gnome classic somehow gnome classic has overwritten gnome3.
in gdm gnome3 has the same effect like gnome classic. I tried to install then gdm3 - but same effect ...
then I added gnome3-repository to sources.list and re-installed gnome - so missing files could be found ...
Now gdm changed to gnome 3.2 but after logging in - there is still gnome classic in the desktop ?

Has this problem to do something with misconfigured nvidia-settings ? nvidia-settings are somehow "ignored" too and not listed in left list of nvidia-xconfig-window. But despite of that nvidia-card is supported full with resolution of 1366x768 here.
Except the nvidia greeting screen is not appearing here at booting...

For anwer thank you !
Regards
dschinn.

Hello again !

In the meantime this "problem" is solved.

In gdm I logged in with mode as 'gnome classic' ( I switched from "broken" 'gnome' to 'gnome classic').
Then later after shutting down and reboot - back in gdm
I again logged in with mode as 'gnome'.

Then the modern gnome was there in again. All is working fine now.

I don't know, why 'gnome' - session resp. 'gnome classic' was misbehaving ...
