Previous Snapshots @ Restore Data Not Available

Asked by neophyte

Using: Back In Time 1.0.6 and Fedora 15 x86_64

Used Back In Time with Fedora 14 and stored various snapshots on external usb hdd.

Installed all new Fedora 15 on same machine.

Named machine with Fedora 15 (formula007) different than before with Fedora 14 (localhost.localdomain).

Hence, previous snapshots are stored in folder with different machine name.

Now, I want to restore the last previous snapshot from the usb hdd to the newly installed Fedora 15 with the different machine name.

But Back In Time does not show any previous snapshot on left hand panel but the "now" snapshot.

How can I point Back In Time to the previous snapshots on the usb hdd and restore all data where it was before?

You have 2 options:

1. (RECOMMENDED) since you changed the system, go to:
    <SNAPSHOTS FOLDER>/backintime/<HOST>
and rename the HOST to the new one.

2. Go to settings, and below snapshots path you have "Advanced". In advanced you can force HOST/USER/PROFILE.

Option 1 worked. Snapshots are now available.

But--is it really true that only restored is one level of folders down? Because after restoring, in my home directory all folders are empty. Do I really have to restore each and every sub folder manually by selecting that folder and hitting the restore icon?

I wanted a complete restore of the last snapshot including each and every sub folder.

Thank you.

Do I really have to spend hours to restore manually each and every sub folder and in there each and every file?

Because in the first place only top level folders without sub folders and their corresponding contents had been restored.

This must be a bug and cannot be true.

Or is there a different way to make Back In Time compare now with previous snapshot and restore what I have not yet restored manually by selecting folders and files and hitting the restore icon?

Can I ask, is this a bug or is there really no other way to have a complete and full restore of my home directory?

This is a bug:
1. BIT need a log for restore to detect what is wrong (like backup)
2. BIT should be able to allow full restore (and if possible to allow multiple selection)

Dan
