Why does the first snapshop skip some subdirectories?

Asked by David Elliott

I used BIT to backup my home folder in Ubuntu 10.04 to an external hard drive (ext4 fs) before doing a clean install of 10.10 32-bit. Once I restored I found that a crucial subdirectory for some program settings and data (~/.local) was empty in the snapshot. Most other subdirectories contained the expected files, though I've happened upon a few other empties. Was this due to a permissions issue or am I missing something regarding the basic functioning of the program? Though it was something I should have planned against, it was a nasty surprise nonetheless! BIT 0.9.26

1. BIT 0.9.26 don't check for errors. BIT >= 1.0 does and add an error log (so you can detect permission problems) so you should upgrade it (stable ppa).
2. When you take the first snapshot you should check it (just to be sure that you have the right include/exclude options). You chould check the error log too.
3. Check ~/.config: normaly this folder contains config files.

Dan
