AWN Notifications Appearing Over Presentations

Asked by CheffPJ

When I'm doing a presentation (using OpenOffice.org's Impress), AWN notifications appear on top of the presentation. For example, if I receive a new email in Zimbra Desktop, the little text notification appears on top of my presentation mode.

Is this a bug or expected behavior? If not a bug, is there an easy way to temporarily disable notifications? Perhaps there is some sort of hook so I can write a script/applet to do it?

This is expected behaviour.

I took some time and began writing some code for just this type of situation. Last I knew it was a big buggy though so YMMV.

start gconf-editor

Navigate to

/apps/avant-window-navigator/applets/awn-notification-daemon/

set show_icon key to true.

restart awn (or the awn-notification-daemon applet).

look at the hide_opacity also... I'd probably leave it at 0 initially.

I believe mouse click should toggle between hide and unhide. you can test by doing a

notify-send "this is a test"

from a terminal.

Can you help with this problem?
