Grouping Windows - When?

Asked by androith

When can we expect to see grouping different instances of the same application under one icon, in Gnome? What is the major problem in implementing it? If you are still unsure of what I mean, think of the mac-dock and how it opens a list of instances (of, say, Firefox) when one right-clicks on the icon.

If all goes well some window grouping functionality will be in 0.4. This is _not_ a guarantee.

I will try to learn more relevant information, and get involved with the (linux app development) community more before saying anything, but I'd be willing to help out with this one.

Just voicing my great interest in having grouping of open instances...I run out of room with all the apps I have open (at the size I like having the icons appear)

For what it's worth, moonbeam has implemented some window grouping support into 0.4. There will not be any binary packages made for at least a month or so (as there are still regressions from trunk). Please subscribe to the Awn announcements, Planet Awn, or follow the forum for more details.
