OpenOffice.org launcher and tasks

Asked by epitaph

Sorry if this is one of those questions that just keeps cropping up, but I couldn't find anything discussing it in detail beyond a few things.

I want to have launchers for OpenOffice.org Writer, Impress and Calc. When I open one of them from the launcher, they do not get associated with the launcher (no little arrow beneath them).

From what I gather, the OpenOffice.org suite essentially runs all of the programs in a wrapper that uses the same binary. Does this essentially make it impossible to have working launcher/task icons in AWN?

It's possible to get the launcher to associate with any OpenOffice.org application just by changing it to the name of "OpenOffice", but this means that whatever the first document you open will be associated with the launcher, no matter if it is a presentation, document or spreadsheet. It seems like the matching algorithm that AWN uses to match names to launchers could possibly be a bit smarter, since any other combination of letters other than "OpenOffice" in the launcher means the task is not associated.

Thanks in advance and thanks for AWN, I really enjoy it.

For OpenOffice.org, yes. Applications which use wrapper scripts make it extremely difficult to associate tasks with launchers because then Awn can't use common methods such as PID or executable path association. At that point, it becomes less of a science and more of an "art".

Can you help with this problem?
