changing appearance of applet icons

Asked by guiliker

I'd really like to change the appearance of the icons for the desktop and quit applets. I'd like them to fit in with the rest of my chosen theme. I know how and have changed the appearance of application launcher icons but I just don't have the know-how to do it for the applets.

Can someone point my in the direction of a tutorial (that I've not been able to find by googling)?

BTW: I'm running Ubuntu Hardy with AWN 0.3.1 from the ppa repository.

You can just drag and drop an icon on the applet and it should use the icon.

That solution works with the applet icons: cairo menu and places. I have not tried it with the volume control but the two i want to customise are desktop and quit. These two will not accept customisation. Dragging and dropping a .png or a .svg file onto the applet icon does not make any difference.

I just tried it with the showdesktop applet, and it works just fine. I dragged the svg file icon from my file manager to the applet, and the "Change Icon?" dialog appeared. I pressed OK, and the icon changed.
