launch web applications from awn?

Asked by vegardjo

hia, and thanks a lot for AWN, along with Compiz Fusion my main reason to make the switch from Windows to Linux a month ago!

one thing I think would be really good is a way to create launchers for *specific web application* from AWN. for instance it would be nice to launch my Zoho Planner, Facebook profile, Gmail, Gcal etc. from the dock, either in a new browser or tab..

I've been searching around for this and cannot find an answer anywhere. The only thing I've seen is that the gOS has a dock that seems to do what I'm thinking about: http://www.thinkgos.com/

I'm using 0.2.1 as this is the one I find in the Ubuntu repositories. but anyways, could this be an idea? is it maybe allready possible (for instance in 0.2.4) and / or is it something that's allready on the roadmap for the future..?

thanks again :)

You should check out this project called Prism from Mozilla: http://labs.mozilla.com/featured-projects/

Prism is great for turning web apps into stand alone apps. You can then add launchers for your different Prism apps onto the bar.

Thanks Andrew Starr-Bochicchio, that solved my question.

Thanks, that worked well!

I also tried a simpler solution which I hadn't thought of before, which was adding desktop links (dragging the adress field of Firefox to the desktop creates this) to AWN, but that did not work. However, the Prism solution is probably better anyways, and more like how it works in gOS. Thanks for the tip!
