Problems in Installing Avant

Asked by Alshaimaa

Hi everyone...

I'm somehow new to Ubuntu... and i tried to install Avant..
i followed the instruction in this link " http://wiki.awn-project.org/index.php?title=A_Visual_Install_Guide#Ubuntu" but i got two problems...
the first one in the software source after i added the code and reload, as i got this message
"W: GPG error: http://download.tuxfamily.org gutsy Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 3E231AC7F4ECF181"

the second problem when i used the Synaptic. i searched for Avant- and when i tried to mark the packages to install i got this message
"avant-window-navigator:
Depends: libawn0 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libwnck18 (>=2.15.90) but it is not installable"

Can anyone help me please?
Many thanks in advance...

GPG error: This is covered in the visual guide, step 10.

"not going to be installed" error: The package you want to install is called "avant-window-navigator-bzr", according to the screenshots.

With regards to the GPG error, I quote the visual guide that you referred to in your original question, step 10:

> Technically, this is [an OK error message]. However, if you wish to make sure that reacocard has confirmed that
> the packages that you are installing are indeed his, you need to do the following: (WARNING: contains instructions
> that need to use the command line.)
>
> a. Click "Cancel" on the confirmation dialog and close Synaptic.
> b. Open up a terminal (Applications → Accessories → Terminal).
> c. Run the following commands:
>
> wget http://download.tuxfamily.org/syzygy42/reacocard.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -
> sudo apt-get update
>
> d. Close the terminal and follow steps 5 through 9 again. This time, when the installation
> confirmation dialog appears, there should not be a "NOT AUTHENTICATED" category.

With regards to the other question, pay close attention to the screenshot in step 8. Those are the exact names of all of the packages that you need to install. (That is, the names under the "Package" column heading)

If you have any other questions, I am available on Awn's IRC channel ( irc://irc.freenode.net/#awn - configure XChat or Pidgin to access the server). It seems that your questions could be better asked in a real-time environment.

You're using pronouns too often. Could you please clarify what "it" is?

> And about the channel.. could you please told me how to access the server through pidgin...

Here's a short tutorial for another project; just replace "#wikieducator" with "#awn" (without quotation marks):

Sorry... i meant Awn that doesn't work...
it installed already and i could see the "Awn Manager" item in my System--> Preferences..
but when i tried to open this manager, it doesn't respond...and the Awn itself doesn't affect on my desktop...
its the same as if i didn't install it...

And for joining the channel.. i did it.. and it works...
Many thanks dear.. and sorry for being such bad in these things...
