Show notification count per app (like iphone)

Asked by josecanciani

A lot of the apps today use, for example, libnotify in Ubuntu to show messages.

This is more a question than a bug, but it would be great if Docky could show the notification count for non active apps (example, number of mails received in thunderbird).

In Mac, Fluid transforms webapps into desktop applications with their own icons and shows the notification count. See here to understand what I'm looking for:

http://www.openparenthesis.org/2008/03/04/fluid

Prism apparently do the same in Windows and Macs:
http://prism.mozillalabs.com/features/ (see System tray icon and dock badges).

Thanks,
Jose.

To be pedantic, this isn't Docky.

As far as I can tell from your feature request, it should already be possible to do so with Awn (and possibly Docky) through the DockManager API:

http://wiki.awn-project.org/Dbus_Backend_API#DBus_unique_path:_net.launchpad.DockManager

Michal Hruby (mhr3), the developer who implemented it for Awn, should be able to provide details so that Prism developers can implement this functionality.

Sorry, I copy and paste from Docky (made the same question there!) And to be honest with you I use AWN on a daily basis, not Docky :P

Thanks for the info, It's good to know there are options to implement badges in AWN!

Regards,
Jose.
