Awn

No preferences under KDE nor using terminal

Asked by Perran Trevan

Using Kubuntu Feisty. I have installed AWN using bzr but can't get any preferences via right-clicking or the command line (output below).

As far as I know I did make clean and uninstall the previous version. Looking at the terminal output, I installed the gnome-vfs-extfs package using adept but this seems to have made no difference.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanks.

I'm not sure, but can you try to install libgnomevfs2-dev instead of gnome-vfs-extfs?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I have the dev package installed as well.

You need to install:

python-gnome2-desktop
python-gnome2
python-gnome2-extras

Thanks,

That helped a little but now it says I need to install pycairo. This isn't available in Ubuntu Feisty repositories so I guess I'll have to wait until it's backported or summat?

Hello. The above topic from the forums helped me to compile AWN again but awn-manager is still elusive!

Launching it with Alt+F2, the window appears for a millisecond...

Launching from terminal I get this error. Is this a bug?

OK, I deleted every file associated with awn and re-compiled. Now I've lost my previous set-up and with awn-manager still not working, I can't do much apart from changing launchers/icons and gconf settings.

AWN is pretty much useless to me unless I can get it to autohide again.

Launching awn-manager from terminal gives this output: -

pepe@ubuntu:~$ awn-manager
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/local/bin/awn-manager", line 43, in <module>
    from awnTheme import AwnThemeManager
ImportError: No module named awnTheme
pepe@ubuntu:~$

I've seen this problem elsewhere on the forums but can't find a way to solve it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oops. I've found the gconf option to put autohide on now. Still would be great to try out awn-manager if there is a way to get it working..

I've gone back to using the bzr .deb from the repos and can only use gconf to set preferences which isn't very intuitive. Maybe when I have time I'll compile from source again and see if things have improved.

similar problem fixed by using gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders to fix my
gdk-pixbuf.loaders file.
1) find your gdk-pixbuf.loaders file mine was:
   /usr/local/etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loaders
2) check where gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders executable is. I found two places.
   /usr/local/bin and /usr/bin.
The one in /usr/local/bin generated output that didn't know about svg
    files, and caused the problem.
3) run the correct one and redirect its output to replace your
   gdk-pixbuf.loaders file. In my case:

/usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders > /usr/local/etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loaders

4) Celebrate
