Location of AWN on screen

Asked by specvthis

How do i move the location of AWN. I have a dual monitor setup running ubuntu feisty with beryl as my composite manager. When I run AWN it does not place it completely on the bottom of my left screen. It has a small gap that is equivalent to the height of my previous gnome-panel that was located there.

Use gconf-editor to set the following keys:
"/apps/avant-window-navigator/monitor_height"
"/apps/avant-window-navigator/monitor_width"

Set the correct height and width and then enable
"apps/avant-window-navigator/force_monitor"

Most comments found on the web talk about fiddling with the monitor width/height.
However, fiddling with these values doesn't help for me, since my environment changes frequently (laptop on the go without 2. monitor, at work with one particular monitor, or somewhere else with a beamer plugged in). Fortunately, there is another solution that I found in this posting:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=830903

1) Go to AWN's settings and add the "preferences applet".
2) Drag this applet to the monitor / edge you want AWN to appear on.

I haven't rebooted yet, so I can't tell if this persistently solves the problem.

Tested the workaround described by nZain and it works here with AWN 0.4 on Ubuntu 10.10, thanks.

Workaround from nZain works on 11.10 / Oneiric too (awn 0.4.1).

It also can be achieved with gconf-tools, e.g.:

gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/instances/avant-window-navigator/panel-1/panel/monitor_force true
gconftool-2 --type int --set /apps/instances/avant-window-navigator/panel-1/panel/monitor_x_offset 1280

This is scriptable, and applies at once. Be aware, that there might be different gconf-paths for awn. Mine is in /apps/instances and panel-1/panel !

Hope this helps someone.
