Ignore Gimp toolbox/dock windows?

Asked by Alex Hvostov

As some of you may know, The Gimp uses at least two top-level windows—the main window and the toolbox—and usually has at least one dock window as well. While I've set Gimp to classify the toolbox and docks as utility windows, AWN still doesn't ignore them. As a result, clicking on Gimp's AWN icon brings up a menu of the three windows, even if I have only one image window open.

This window menu is not useful. IMO, only the image windows should be shown in AWN, and in current versions of Gimp, there is always at least one image window open as long as Gimp is running, so the toolbox/dock windows should never appear on their own.

Is there a way to make AWN ignore these utility windows?

Currently we ignore desktop, dock, toolbar, menu, splashscreen and anything that is skip taskbar.

Well, that helps. I've configured Compiz to make all utility windows skip-taskbar as well, and that seems to do what I want to Gimp's toolbox and dock windows.

Is there any particular reason AWN doesn't ignore utility windows too?

Alex,

I think the best answer is if we ignored the utility window then we'd end up getting the opposite question :-)
