Remove launcher icons

Alright, so what I'm wondering is how to remove the default Firefox icon in the launcher applet. Also, I added Google Chrome and aMSN icons to the same launcher by right click and clicking "add as launcher". I was wondering if I could remove all these icons so that the launcher just acts as a task manager and only displays programs that are currently open. How do I do this? Mind you, I'm very new to Ubuntu aswell as AWN! Just started using a couple days ago. So details would be very useful. I know how to use the terminal though. =D Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
